What Our Learners Say
About West Beverly Language Services
We offer tailored expert-led English courses for all levels. We want to help you build not only fluency in language, but understanding of culture to better build your confidence when speaking.
West Beverly Language provides English language learning services designed to help students achieve their individual language goals. Our instruction focuses on how English is actually used in real life, emphasizing pragmatics and cultural context rather than rote memorization of vocabulary or grammar. This approach helps students develop practical communication skills that support real understanding and long-term improvement.
Our teaching is informed by decades of experience in both in-person and online instruction and guided by the ACTFL proficiency level system to accurately assess and support student progress. By understanding the learner’s context and needs, West Beverly Language creates a structured yet flexible learning environment focused on clear progress and meaningful results.

Meet Our Instructors!

Shane
Hi!
I received my B.A. from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in English Literature (with a minor in Film Studies) in 2001 and my M.A. from the University of Illinois at Chicago in Linguistics/TESOL in 2012. I have been teaching ESL for over 24 years, about half of which were spent in Japan and the other half of which were spent in the United States. I was President of the Illinois Teachers of Bilingual / TESOL Education group (ITBE) and I was also the local co-chair of the TESOL annual convention when it was hosted in Chicago.
Currently I am a full time instructor / language pedagogy specialist in the English Language Institute at UChicago where I teach and curriculum design the program's Spoken Communication classes focusing on academic presentation, intercultural pragmatics, and fluency building for the University's international student community. I am very interested in what role culture plays in language acquisition and how branching narratives books and board games can help ELLs improve their English abilities.
